Hiker Takes Self-Portraits on the Pacific Crest Trail for 159 Days and 1,700 miles
Kolby Kirk hiked for 159 days and 1,700 miles along the Pacific Crest Trail in 2011, losing ninety pounds in the process. This video of ‘selfies’ from his trip document his journey as well as his impressive beard. Although expressionless in most of the photos, there are a few fun pictures thrown in and plenty of amazing scenery.
And Cuddly Jumping Spiders by Thomas Shahan
When you hear the word “cute,” “spider” is probably not the first word that pops into your head. But photographer Thomas Shahan is out to change all that with his incredible macro photographs of doe-eyed jumping spiders.

Powerful and Surreal Self Portraits by Rachel Baran
Powerful and Surreal Self Portraits by 20-Year-Old Rachel Baran
Rachel Baran is an extraordinarily talented U.S.-based photographer who creates amazing surreal and conceptual portraits that thousands of people have fallen in love with. And she’s only 20 years old.
One of the best things about Baran’s work is that it’s constantly evolving and growing. As such a young photographer, she’s still trying out different styles and inspirations. Some of her images are dark, introverted and full of suffering, while others encapsulate the young and artistic photographer’s youth and joy. What’s most important, however, is that all of them are creative and very well-done.
Baran experiments with different methods for creating her photos as well. Some are simply manipulated in Photoshop while others are created by combining multiple photographs. Best of all, Baran posts images on her Facebook breaking down the creative process behind some of her more complex photographs, showing us what different images went into the creation of her final picture.
The 20-year-old psychology major’s beautiful images seem similar in spirit to work by Kylli Sparre, another talented photographer that uses Photoshop to create gripping surreal portraits.

15 Awesome Photos from Joe Barnas
15-year-old Joe Barnas is a photographer from the Chicago suburbs. He got into photography a few years back by filming short films. As time went by, he started to put a greater focus on still photography. Joe has grown in this art, but it has largely stayed a hobby. However, he hopes to successfully work as a photographer after college. Joe finds inspiration in many works of modern architecture, the work of other photographers, and also scenes of nature like the snowy backcountry of British Columbia. He also finds inspiration on Tumblr and on the VSCO Grid and Journal.
